Three Ways Dads Can Encourage Piano Playing in Kids

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

It’s an undisputable fact of life: kids learn by example. Both positive and negative behaviors are often learned and reinforced by a parent’s example. What better way to teach your child a skill, like piano playing, than by demonstrating it?

Dads have an extra important role to play when motivating kids to learn music. Children who are regularly exposed to music in the home are more likely to grow up musical. Kids with parents who actually play an instrument (like piano) have an even further edge.

Dad’s role is especially important when it comes to raising a budding pianist. Young children in particular look to their fathers as role models. They see Dad as omniscient, Herculean and heroic. Kids are natural imitators and will readily and willingly engage in an activity that Dad portrays as cool or fun.

Mothers, of course, can play a significant role in helping kids get excited about piano playing. The downside of having a mother who is musical when Dad isn’t is that it can send mixed messages. Children may view piano playing as a “girl” activity, at least at home.

Motivating a child to practice regularly is a chore at the best of times. Children are often even less excited about practicing when they know that their parents don’t play. It’s tough for kids to see the value in a musical education under these circumstances.

Dads can make a difference in the musical education of their children even if they’ve never played piano before. It’s never too late to learn something new. You might not become a virtuoso, but that’s not the point. The point is to show your child that piano playing is a valuable life skill.

Dads who haven’t previously taken piano lessons can get started by doing one or more of the following:

* Taking a parent/child piano class. Some music schools offer parent/child piano lessons. Many are actually founded on the philosophy that children learn best through active parent participation. Parent/child classes teach basic musical skills but also foster healthy interaction between parent and child. Plus, dads who never took piano lessons get to learn right along with their children.

* Take a self-tutorial. Piano tutorials are available in workbook and DVD form as well as online. Tutorials are self-directed and cover the basics like note reading and chords. Online tutorials sometimes have the added advantage of access to an online mentor. Self tutorials range in price. Many are free. Most courses cost between $25 and $100 for basic foundational skills. A dad can at least learn enough this way to understand what his child is learning. He may even be able to learn from his child.

* Take formal piano lessons. Remember, it’s not too late to learn. You don’t have to take classical piano either if that’s not your forte. Find an instructor who understands what your goal is: to lead your child by example. Your instructor can design a lesson plan that helps meet those needs without scaring you with long-winded classical pieces. He or she can teach you the basics and give you a great foundation for piano playing for and with your child.

Dads who master the basics of piano playing have another advantage that non-musical dads don’t. Pianist fathers have one more way to encourage kids to turn off the television and engage in something productive and beneficial. Impromptu family concerts, father/child duets or simply making up goofy songs together fosters relaxation, bonding and emotional health.

Free AdSense Training Course – More than 30,000 Readers

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

I was reviewing some statistics on one of my websites the other day and found that well over 30,000 people have now taken my free AdSense training course.

The course was until recently a bit out of date because I first wrote it in 2003! although many of the underlying principles remain unchanged. Anyway, I’ve updated it a fair bit of late and am pleased to report that most people remain on my AdSense list for over a year and I know for a fact that many people have been on it for over 999 days whatever that is in years.

So if you are looking for free info on how to make money with AdSense you’re on the right place. Just check out AdSense.

What you get there is a 5 day intro to AdSense coupled with an introduction to AdSense related tools and tips. You also get an opportunity to sign up for some additional free Internet Marketing Training

The AdSense course is aimed at relative newbies to AdSense and covers topics such as keyword research, content creation, traffic generation and domain names so it’s fairly generalised.

The Internet Marketing Course is more generalised and sets out to teach people how to make money online either as a standalone business opportunity or as a means to grow an existing business that needs a web presence or that is already online but not doing very well.

Both the courses are backed up by further information in an online Internet Marketing Dictionary

How to Benefit from Couples Therapy

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

More and more couples take on couple’s therapy to strengthen their relationships and their lives as individuals as well.

There are several types of couples therapy out there which you can take part of in order to help you become a better person and a better partner respectively.

Some couple’s therapy come in the form of frequent closed door communication between the couple and their therapist where they get to discuss their differences and the things that they want each other to work on.

Some relationships fail for the very reason that the couples are not willing to adjust to make the relationship work and they do not necessarily communicate with each other.

Other types of couple’s therapy could be in the form of a weekend getaway or vacation where the couple get to spend time away from everything else, including the demands of their work, children, business and everything else that causes them stress.

This is a good and effective type of couple’s therapy because the couples are able to spend quality time together.

There are also religious types of couple’s therapy where the couple gets to spend time soul searching in a search, on a mountain, in a far away place and the like.

This type of couple’s therapy is effective because the couples are able to confront their individual issues that are potential threats to their relationship.

You can benefit from all these types of couple’s therapy by keeping an open mind and heart in learning from your partner and by willing yourself to accept possible changes and adjustments that you have to take on in order to make the relationship work.

Having marital problems? Start saving your marriage and become and better person as well.

Enhancing Dishes With Tea

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

With all the known health benefits of tea any additional mode to take it into our eating routine is positive. Another advantage of seasoning with tea is that it is an capable technique to add or enhance the flavor of a dish without adding undesirable elements such as fat, calories or sodium, which occasionally are a piece of different flavor enhancers.

While cooking with tea can seem to be a new trend, it has in reality been around virtually as long as the drink itself. The renowned Chinese wu long tea itself possesses a story as vibrant and interesting as the individuals who discovered it.

The Chinese have been employing black tea to simmer and smoke dishes for hundreds of years. The Japanese have been relishing a dish which is made by streaming green tea all over rice ahead of serving. Additionally, the British have been using tea leaf to flavor tea cakes and to stew dried fruit for ages.

Many Asian civilizations have used tea to assist in maintaining a reasonable equilibrium in their diet in addition to merely flavoring their delicious meals. As an example, infusing wu long tea for weight loss or green tea as an anti-oxident.

Popular cooks have been expanding these uses of tea and observing that even little additions are capable of lending a fullness to dishes without overcoming the true flavor of the meal. As an example, try adding a tablespoon of English Breakfast tea to a dressing, or a Jasmine tea serving or two to rice while it is cooking. A wulong tea of formosa can add an innovative flavor to otherwise plain dishes.

To cook with tea does not have to be limited to the starter or main meal. Tea Leaf may also bring a sophisticated taste to dessert. Full black teas such as Darjeeling have rich tones which help strengthen the flavor of chocolate desserts. Green teas are able to add a pizzazz to creamy desserts while they likewise are inclined to calm the tart flavor of a citrus sorbet. While aromatic teas like chai are able to impart a pleasurable flavor to rich items such as icing or cheesecake.

Diet Loss Tactics

Friday, April 24th, 2009

There are many ways to experience quick weight loss. The important thing is to do it in a way that is sustainable and healthy. If the approach is not done in a way that you can continue on about as long as possible, chances are that you won’t be able to lose the weight and keep it off for good.

After researching several methods and doing countless hours of testing, I have found that there are multiple diets that are helpful and could even be considered pleasant. One of my favorites is the detox diet. Another thing that was extremely interesting is the information I found regarding the positive vitality affects and connection between the milk diet.

I’ll let you in on something that many people don’t know about, all you need is a regular exercise routine, a diet of whole foods and a bit of meditation, yoga or qi-gong to feel quite a bit better. Think of the whole process as a marathon, the people with the most dedication and endurance are normally the ones that finish the race and win as a result. Some people don’t realize that you can do things to help yourself along like consuming the recommended 64 ounces of water which will work to remove the toxins from the body. If you consume lots of water your body will have a better chance of flushing out all the toxins in your body and cleansing your colon.

In future articles we can go more into detail regarding the advice that has currently been given and try to explore the multiple facets, strategies and techniques required on the road to Wellsville!

If you really take a moment to consider all these points and apply this information to your life, there is no doubt that you will be successful in your efforts to lose weight and you might even want to thank us later!

The Importance of Staff Recruitment

Friday, April 24th, 2009

It is a well known business truism that one bad employee can undo the work of two good employees without even trying! They can be your worst nightmare or they can be almost as valuable to your business as you are and sometimes more so. Controlling them and directing their energies is a demanding and challenging task and one that has baffled and concerned me on more occasions than wish to remember.

The problems with employees are varied, overstaffing, understaffing, disputes, low morale, misdirected enthusiasm, delegation, job suitability, hiring, firing etc.

Right about now you’re thinking “I don’t need employees they’re too much trouble!”. Wrong, if you are going to expand and grow you will eventually need help, employees provide that help. As I have found over the years, some of my employees have saved “my bacon” on more than one occasion and literally can’t do without them.

Many successful companies regard their employees as their most valuable commodity and even some countries will claim their most precious resource is their people, Japan for example. This is a philosophy that you should adopt, because if your customers are treated well by your staff the profits will look after themselves, because remember, it doesn’t matter how cheap you are, if you treat customers badly, you will never see them again. And disgruntled customers have big mouths – remember that.

Again with anything, it requires planning and employees are no different. A staffing plan should consider the following:

  • The present and future requirements of the business.
  •

  • The business functions required to meet your objectives.
  •

  • The number of employees required to perform these functions.
  •

  • The type of people needed (skills, qualifications, personality type).
  •

  • Where are you going to find these employees (competitors, friends, family, advertise)
  •

  • Do the jobs allocated have a practical and worthwhile purpose.
  •

  • Can the jobs allocated, be done in a more efficient way.
  •

  • Holiday staffing requirements, which employees can go on holiday at the same time without throwing the business into total chaos.

When considering these issues remember you should always find the person to fit the job not the job to fit the person. The trickiest part of employment issues is hiring. One of the main contributors to staff turnover is poor staff selection by employers.

The lesson here is to be careful, be very careful when it comes to selecting the right people and at the same time make yourself aware of the anti-discrimination legislation otherwise you may find yourself on the losing end of a dispute.

I’ve heard that 80% of employers lose these disputes and must pay damages or offer the person the job – great isn’t it? – your idea, your business, your risk, your personal choice., your money and “they” dictate who you can and can’t employ!

Here are a few tips to help you through the “staff selection minefield”:

  • Before placing an advertisement, ensure that it is clear and straight to the point as regards experience and job description.
  •

  • Leave personal preferences out, don’t mention age, sex, marital status, race or anything like that – it’s not allowed.
  •

  • Define the job role on paper stating very clearly the functions to be performed including any menial tasks as these are the ones that seem to cause the most problems. Also, state things like hours and any unusual conditions and experience and/or qualifications required. so there can be no dispute on what was agreed to at the interview. Give a copy to each interviewee.
  •

  • Pre-plan the interviews by listing relevant questions to ask each interviewee so you get an “apples v’s apples” comparison.
  •

  • Always reference check, ask questions about personality, attitude to work etc.
  •

  • One thing I always thought worked well was asking a few technical or test questions. If they were offended by your asking these questions then they should be avoided at all costs as they are probably people who are too tightly wrapped or can’t handle a little pressure and you don’t need employees like that. If they answer the questions and get them wrong they were obviously either nervous or they didn’t know the answer.
  •

  • If you think they were nervous give them a little longer and reassure them that being nervous won’t harm their chances at getting the job and this generally produces positive results.

Once you have completed the interviews and made your decision, advise the successful applicant by phone and then send a letter of confirmation with details like salary, starting date, position etc. Also, send each unsuccessful applicant a letter thanking them for applying and for their effort. Courtesy goes a long way to building goodwill within a business.

You never really know where your next great idea will come from

Friday, April 24th, 2009

When David Jobe’s daughter got interested in horses just a few years ago David thought it would just entail a few weekends away at horse events with his family. As it turned out, it would be the inspiration for a new product line for David. David was the Managing Director of Jobe & Co Campers and had been manufacturing and selling trailer campers for years.

It didn’t take long for David to recognise there was a real need for someone to design a camper that could be fitted easily to the side of a Horse Trailer. David observed that many horse people were sleeping in their trucks, cars, tents, trailer campers, large elaborate horse trailers with sleeping quarters in the front and some even slept in the back of the horse trailer itself. David’s solution was to design a light weight and compact camper that could easily be attached to the side of a Horse Trailer and would fold out into a sleeping area with an enclosed annexe on the front. The design requirements were simply. It had to be compact when folded away as well as being water and dust proof. It also had to be quick and easy to setup, comfortable and weather proof, for a great night’s sleep, and then quick and easy to pack away when required.

It wasn’t long before the design was finalised and David started selling what is now know as the Horse Float Camper (horse trailers are called horse floats in Australia). The advantages of the new design were numerous and horse owners were quick to recognise them. One customer commented that when they once went away with their horses they also had to tow a trailer camper as well which meant taking two trucks. Since they had the Horse Float Camper fitted to the side of their horse trailer they now only need to take one truck. They save on fuel and now they can travel together in one vehicle. Another customer was thinking of upgrading to a gooseneck with living quarters but instead bought a much smaller horse trailer with one of David’s Horse Float Campers on the side. She saved on the purchase price and is now also saving on fuel.

Now nearly three years down the track David has a quickly expanding business in Australia and is ready to introduce his product to rest of the world. David has re-branded his product into what is now called the Horse Trailer Camper and is starting to generate a lot of interest in the USA.

So if David was to reflect back now, at what was originally just way supporting his daughter’s new passion, he’d now see what has rapidly turned into an expanding business venture for himself.

It’s just so true, you never really do know where your next great idea will come from. Horse Trailer Camper truly is testimony to that.

Buying a Sacramento Home

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Sacramento, located in the great Central Valley almost in the middle, between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, is fast growing and a great place to live in California.

Sacramento is just two hours drive from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe and benefits largely from the proximity to the Bay Area. In spite of being so closely located, the Sacramento real estate market is much more affordable than the San Francisco Bay Area market, and is much less congested.

Sacramento offers a variety of housing options to choose from.

Sacramento homes range from low priced condos from the $150s to multi-million dollar homes. Homes are available in a broad variety of styles ranging from the modern to historical landmark homes. One can find houses in many neighborhoods that range from low 200’s and up, in various bed and bath combinations.

If you are thinking of buying real estate in Sacramento, now is the time. Prices are still very affordable, and have even come down a bit.

As the inventory of Sacramento homes for sale increases, the average days on the market increases as well, giving the Sacramento home buyer more homes to choose from when shopping.

The entry level and lower priced homes are selling more frequently, leading to a decrease in the median home price in Sacramento County. In general, sellers of higher priced homes that have been sitting on the market for long, especially those that have been priced above $450,000, have been forced to lower their prices.

The Sacramento real estate market is bustling now with the rise in the number of homes on the market. The Sacramento county MLS active listings are at an all-time high; make sure to check out the online California Realty Directory listings. All this is good news for the buyers as it gives them more real estate to choose from.

Currently, the real estate market is neutral but is fast heading towards becoming a buyer’s market. So, if you are looking forward to buying a Sacramento home, then it’s a good idea to take advantage of these market conditions today. Sacramento homebuyers now have the advantage of more negotiating power as sellers vie to catch the attention of discerning buyers.
